A New Brunswick
cardiologist who lives in Martinsville
was charged Friday with criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of
a child in connection with an incident at
his office with a 16-year-old girl.
Ravinder Sharma, 60, was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. Friday at his practice located at 135 Livingston Ave. in New Brunswick, Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced.
Sharma was charged after Investigator James Kelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and Detective Karla Capes of the New Brunswick Police Department determined that Sharma inappropriately touched a 16-year-old female on Wednesday, July 17 at his office. The incident was reported to the New Brunswick Police Department that evening.
Sharma, who has been licensed to practice medicine in New
Jersey since 1991, is a cardiologist affiliated with John
F. Kennedy Medical
Center in Edison.
Sharma has been a doctor for 35 years since his graduation from medical school
in India in
He joined the JFK staff in 1998 after serving an internship and fellowship at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia .
Sharma’s bail was set by New Brunswick Municipal Court Judge Philip Borow at $25,000 with a 10 percent option.
