UPDATE: Height Child Fell From Bleachers Disputed

The director of the Bridgewater Football League believes the child fell about 15 feet.

Bridgewater Football League director Barry Szymanski said the Pennsylvania boy who fell from the bleachers at Sunday actually couldn't have fallen more than 15 feet.

Bridgewater Township Police reported Monday that the during a Bridgewater Football League game Sunday—but Szymanski said he believes that is an exaggeration.

"Fifty feet is a five-story building," he said. "Five stories are not even close to what the bleachers are."

Instead, Szymanski said, he believes it was about 15 feet, although he said he does not have the exact measurements.

"I was there when the boy's father called the police," he said. "If you look at the bleachers and walk underneath, my educated guess is 15 feet from where the father said he fell."

Regardless of the distance, Szymanski said a relative of the child—who was attending the game with his family to cheer on a relative or friend in Bridgewater—reported at the end of the game that the child was fine.

"A relative came to the press box at the end of the game and said everything was fine," he said. "The boy was released from the hospital that night."

Szymanski said he has never seen this happen before, but that he is not about to recommend intalling bleachers that do not have the open space behind the seats.

"Whatever the high school does is what it does," he said. "The high school has these bleachers, and if it's fine for them, it's fine for everyone."

Superintendent of Schools Michael Schilder declined to comment on the incident, saying he does not have enough information.
