UPDATE: State Police: Child Satisfactory After Being Ejected From Car

One-car accident occurred Wednesday night on I-78 ramp heading onto I-287 exit.

State police from Somerville provided updated information Thursday about a child ejected Wedneday night from a car that apparently skidded and overturned on a ramp leading from Interstate 78 West onto Interstate 287 North.

The child, a boy, remains hospitalized but is "OK" following the accident, state police said.

The accident took place at about 8 p.m. Wednesday when a boy of about 10 years old, initially reported to be a girl, suffered some internal injuries including broken ribs, state police reported Thursday.

The boy was transported by a local rescue squad to Morristown Memorial Hospital, a state trooper said.

State police said the boy apparently had been lying in the back seat, not wearing a seat belt, when the vehicle apparently skidded on the wet road, and finally overturned. The child then was ejected from the car, police said.
