Water Main Break Causes Delays on Route 202

The road is passable, but there will be traffic, police say.

A water main break on Route 202 near Talamini Road is causing traffic delays that will last for an undetermined amount of time, according to Bridgewater Township Police Sgt. Paul Payne.

The break occurred around 4:15 p.m. Friday, and Payne said that New Jersey American Water is currently trying to shut off the water to the main break.

"They're still looking for the shut-off main for that," he said. "Usually they have maps with the area, but they don't always update the maps when things shift."

Payne said there are definitely traffic delays in the area of the water main break, but no lanes are actually closed. Instead, he said, they have been shifted.

"We have a diversion there," he said. "It's passable, but we have shifted the lanes over to make it passable."

At this point, Payne said, he does not know how long the delays will last.

"We will have delays, and it is unknown how long it will take to make the repairs," he said.

Payne said these kinds of incidents can occur sometimes, depending on conditions.

"Periodically it happens due to changes in the weather," he said.
