Wayne Roads 'Slippery,' Police Say

Rain expected after 1 to 2 inches of snow.

Wayne Police Capt. Mark McGrath is advising residents to stay off the roads Wednesday night as a wintry mix has started to impact the area.

"The roads are very slippery now. The snow started sticking immediately," he said.

McGrath said several accidents have already been reported and that "if people can avoid travel, they should."

Up to 2 inches of snow is expected in Wayne before rain begins to fall.

"The main roads are where we have the most accidents because that's where the most people are driving," McGrath said.

Roads crews from the local, county and state departments are already out working on clearing roads and ensuring safety.

You are correct. Constantly people are driving and texting or on thier cell phones. My observations are 4 out of 5 that I see on cell phones are woman. The A&P shopping center the worse area. They walk thru the lot talking, carrying bags and walk right into the roadway by A&P and don't even look before crossing. The front of the A&P creates a blind spot for drivers. Whoever designed the front of that store didn't have the safety of pedestrians in mind. Its a tradgedy waiting to happen.

i would think you would know, that Wayne with its Hills and Valley's makes many roadways slick even with 2'' of snow. It don't take much to slide down roads like Preakness Ave, Ratzer Rd, Osborne Tr. and many other streets unsafe.

There are almost as many injuries and deaths with people texting and talking on the telephone than drunk drivers. By what I have seen lately on Valley Road, that will soon change. HANG UP AND DRIVE, thank you. The life you save may be your own.

Do you know why it's women on their phones? Because they're moms juggling everything and you mention a&p because they're picking up dinner and trying pick up a child or children from their many sports practices. Or running them to a doctors appointment. And she's probably on the phone with her lazy husband and he's asking where's dinner.

Gee! How did any of that stuff get done before the advent of cell phones, I wonder? Weak excuse that you're offering, and not necessary since Pad is only seeing what he wants or expects to see. Men are on there cell phones just as much as women are.
