7-Eleven Proposed for Busy Finderne Corner

Township will hear application for 24-hour convenience store.

A proposal to build a 24-hour 7-Eleven at one of the township’s busiest intersections will go before the Zoning Board of Adjustment on Tuesday evening.

The 7-Eleven is proposed for the southwestern corner of East Main Street and Finderne Avenue next to McCarthy’s restaurant and across Finderne Avenue from Burger King.

The intersection, once known as Four Corners, used to be the home of the landmark Bucky’s restaurant on the northwestern corner. The restaurant was demolished in the 1990s when the intersection was improved during the construction of the Bridgewater Promenade and TD Bank Ballpark.

According to plans submitted to the township, the plans call for the current building on the site – which used to house an auto repair business – to be demolished and replaced with a one-story, 3,005-square foot building. The retail space of the store will be 1,995 square feet.

The site will have entrances from both East Main Street and Finderne Avenue.

About two or three employees will be in the store on each shift, the application says.

Also before the Zoning Board of Adjustment is a proposal to open a 24-hour convenience store and gas station at another one of the township’s busiest intersections, Route 28 and Country Club Road.

That proposal has generated opposition by residents in the neighborhood who object to the business being open 24 hours a day.

The board is scheduled to vote Aug. 6 on that proposal.

The 7-Eleven hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building, 100 Commons Way.
