Ceremonies to Honor Memory of 9/11

The county and township will be holding ceremonies throughout the day.

Both the county and township are offering several ceremonies Sunday to honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.

Here are your options for today:

  • Township ceremony—At 12:45 p.m. at the municipal building, the township will host a brief ceremony, including a Moment of Remembrance and a minute of reflection, as well as the ringing of bells and sounding of sirens. A national mandate requires that Americans cease all work for one minute at 1 p.m. to mark the moment.
  • North Branch Volunteer Fire Co. ceremony—The fire company will be holding a 9/11 ceremony dedication with a steel beam from the fallen World Trade Towers. The ceremony will be held at the station on Route 28 at 8 a.m.
  • Ceremony at Memorial Clock Tower—The county will be holding a ceremony and planting of a memorial tree at the clock tower on Main Street in Somerville. The ceremony will be held at 8:45 a.m., and will include the reading of the names of the 39 Somerset County residents who died in the World Trade Center.
  • Somerset Patriots Ceremony—The Somerset Patriots will host a special 9/11 tribute before the game, and will honor those currently in the service and their families. It will also honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11.
