Council Briefs: Contracts Awarded for Road Work Projects

And the council accepts a highway traffic safety grant.

What follows is an account of actions taken on Sept. 19 by the Bridgewater Township Council, which, while not breaking news, are still of note.

Police Document Fees Changed

The council unanimously approved the introduction of an ordinance to change fees for requests of documents, making them 5 cents for letter size or smaller and 7 cents for legal size or larger.

This is a change from the previous fees of 75 cents for pages one through 10, 50 cents for pages 11 through 20 and 25 cents for page and 21 and more.

According to township attorney William Savo, this is consistent with state requirements.

“The police department got recommendations from the government records council,” he said. “Those have been challenged, and the communication is that it will be 10 to 12 months until we get responses. So this ordinance brings the police fees in accordance with recently enacted fees.”

Public hearing for the ordinance will be held Oct. 3.

Township accepts highway safety grant

The council unanimously approved a resolution to accept a 2011 New Jersey Department of Transportation Highway Safety Fund Grant to be used for enforcement along the safe corridors on Route 22.

The grant is for $112,890.17.

Township engineer appointed to Flood Control Commission

Thomas Forsythe, township engineer, was appointed to the Raritan and Millstone Flood Control Commission.

Councilman Matthew Moench asked whether there are fees attached to having a representative on the commission, but township administrator Robert Bogart said there are none yet.

“The understanding was that we could participate in the commission, but when funding is an issue, we will come back to the council,” Bogart said.

Engineer appointed for sewer improvements

The township council unanimously appointed Van Cleef Engineering Associates, LLC for construction management and inspection services for improvements to the North Branch Sanitary Sewer Trunk Line Project.

The contract is for an amount not to exceed $19,000.

The project requires analyzing inflow, recommending rehabilitation, replacing infrastructure, obtaining permits and other work.

Engineer appointed for high school field project

The township council unanimously approved a contract to appoint Maser Consulting to perform engineering services on the new turf field, which is being constructed through an agreement between Bridgewater and the .

“We have done the commitment of funds with the board of education, and this is for the real engineering of it,” said council president Howard Norgalis.

The contract is for an amount not to exceed $23,110.

Contract approved for road improvements on Vosseller Avenue

The township council approved a resolution to award a contract to the Reynolds Group Inc. for engineering and inspection services for road improvements on Vosseller Avenue from Route 22 to Miriam Drive.

The cost of the contract is for $37,700.

“This doesn’t speak to drainage or anything, just repaving work,” said township administrator Robert Bogart. “Some of that will come from engineering work where there is drainage needed.”

Contract approved for resurfacing on three roads

The township council approved a resolution to hire Top Line Construction Corp. for resurfacing portions of Downey Road, Jackson Street and Woodfield Road.

The contract is for an amount not to exceed $236,431.50.

The company will be working on resetting manholes, pavement milling, pavement repair, application of hot mix asphalt pavement, striping and other incidental work.

Contract approved for chip seal work on roads

The township council unanimously approved a resolution for maintenance and repair work on Fairway Court, Roanoke Road, Glen Road and Van Nest Road.

The contract was awarded to Asphalt Paving Systems Inc., and is for $87,981.80.

This is for a maintenance and repair work project for chip seal and microsurfacing.

Engineer hired for phase three roadway improvements

To complete Foothill Road Phase 3 Roadway Improvements, the township council unanimously approved a resolution to award a contract to Stilo Excavation Inc. for completion of work.

The contract is for $236,822.47.

The company will provide construction services for improvements on Foothill Road between North Bridge Street and Birch Hill Drive.

Council approves submissions of two road grants

The township council approved two resolutions to apply for grants from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for road improvements projects.

The grants are for the Country Club Road Improvement Project, which includes Country Club Road from Route 28 to the bridge about 1,155 feet north of Route 28.

The grant being requested includes $135,965 for the phase one section and $143,765 for the phase three section.
