Custodial Services OK'd, Open Space Preserved

Road improvements are starting on Country Club Road.

What follows is an account of actions taken on March 4 by the Bridgewater Township Council, which, while not breaking news, are still of note.

Custodial services approved for municipal building

The council unanimously approved a resolution to award a contract to RMC Maintenance Group LLC for custodial services for the municipal building and public works building.

The contract is for $39,996.96, and it will expire Dec. 31, 2013.

Township administrator James Naples said this was the lowest of 13 bids, and is even lower than last year, despite adding the new Department of Public Works Building to the roster of those needing the services.

Township acquires open space property

The council approved a resolution to authorize the acquisition of property on St. Antonio Avenue and Broad Street as open space.

The township is purchasing the property from Nicholas Fulfaro for $20,000 to be paid from the Open Space Trust Fund.

Township administrator James Naples said they were initially prepared to purchase the property for $50,000, until the township found that it had substantial wetlands.

When the township opted not to move forward, Fulfaro sued to require the purchase to go forward.

The two entities eventually settled for $20,000, Naples said.

Road improvements to begin on Country Club Road

The council unanimously approved a resolution to award a contract to Top Line Construction Corp. for road improvements for Country Club Road, from the golf cart underpass to Route 22.

The contract is for $114,212.16.

The project is being funded by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Program for the sum of $140,000.

Township engineer Robert Bogart said that even though the grant is more expensive than the contract price, the township is not able to use any of the funds for a different project because it was allocated for this one.

Work on the road will include repaving and incidental work.
