Council Briefs: Township Must Pay Visiting Nurses Costs

Another resolution continues a shared service with Bound Brook.

What follows is an account of actions taken on Feb. 21 by the Bridgewater Township Council, which, while not breaking news, are still of note.

Township to pay for Visiting Nurses Association services

The council unanimously approved a resolution to enter into an agreement with the Community Visiting Nurses Association for public health nursing services.

The services will be provided for $10,372.75, and services will include older adult immunizations, health screening sessions and more.

According to township Administrator James Naples, this was previously supported through a grant—but that money has since been removed from the state budget.

“We have to fully fund this,” he said. “There is no grant available, and it is a requirement to have this service.”

Fees approved for needs during litigation

The council approved a resolution for additional fees to be paid for unanticipated litigation costs to be paid to John Cilo Jr. Associates.

According to Naples, township planner Scarlett Doyle was involved in the litigation with the Al Falah property, and it caused her contract to exceed the allowable amount.

The resolution requires the payment of $7,320.50 for her services.

Council approves decrease in costs for road work

The decrease in costs for maintenance and repair work, chip seal and microsurfacing was approved by the council.

The costs are being paid to Safeco Insurance Company of America.

Costs have decreased from $87,981.80 to $85,191.05.

In addition, the council approved a decrease for work done by the company in a second project, decreasing the costs from $75,005.70 to $73,000.20.

Electrical contractor approved for emergencies

The council approved a resolution to award a contract to Global Electrical Services for future emergency electrical work, when needed.

The costs are $72 per hour for non-emergency work and $84 per hour for emergency work.

According to township administrator James Naples, this company will be the township vendor should they need a licensed electrician to perform emergency work in the township.

“It’s for all the facilities and fields,” he said.

Naples said any emergency or need for the contractor will be determined by John Langel, director of the department of public works.

Township participating in public safety grant program

The council unanimously approved a resolution to participate in the Safe and Secure Communities Program through the State of New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice.

The amount of the grant is $60,000, and is used to offset the costs of officers.

“We are again eligible for the grant, and are asking for acceptance to offset costs,” Naples said. “This helps to offset costs of officers we currently have.”

Township renews shared service agreement with Bound Brook

The council approved a resolution to renew a shared service agreement with Bound Brook for providing public works service.

According to the agreement, the township will provide Bound Brook with the use of Bridgewater’s video camera truck and a sewer operator to perform pump station inspections.

According to the agreement, Bound Brook will pay the township a fee of $11,000 per year for the daily inspection of the Mountain Avenue Pump Station, and use of the video camera truck and operator at a rate of $150 per hour.

“We do fully cover our costs with this dollar amount,” said Naples. “It’s based on hourly work, and we do regular work hours. And when we check our pump stations on the weekend, we check theirs too.”
