Council Briefs: Township Receives Grants

What follows is an account of actions taken on July 16 by the Bridgewater Township Council, which, while not breaking news, are still of note.

Township receives grant for alcohol enforcement

The council unanimously approved a resolution to add into the budget about $4,532.90 for municipal court alcohol education rehabilitation and enforcement.

“This grant is used explicitly to hold DWI court sessions,” said township administrator James Naples.

Naples said it does not require matching funds from the township.

Township receives grant for emergency management

In addition to grant money for the courts, the council unanimously approved a resolution to add in to the budget funds for the 2012 Office of Emergency Management.

The township is receiving $5,000.

The township receives these funds every year.

Township reimbursing grant for mall surveillance system

With a $291,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Home Land Security for a new video at the , the council approved a resolution to reimburse General Growth Properties some of the money.

General Growth Properties built the system in the mall.

The township will be reimbursing the company $150,238.62, which covers additional police coverage in peak times as required by Home Land Security plus design and construction of the system to monitor the inside and outside of the mall.

“The system will be maintained by General Growth Properties,” said township administrator James Naples.

Naples said the township and police department will have access to the system to be used if needed in emergencies.
