Council Briefs: Van Holten, Garretson Roadwork to be Done

The township is also replacing a damaged radio tower.

What follows is an account of actions taken on June 6 by the Bridgewater Township Council, which, while not breaking news, are still of note.

Communications facility to be replaced

The council unanimously approved a resolution to award a contract to Communication Specialist, Inc. to repair a radio tower that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

The contract is for $87,840.

Township administrator James Naples said this was a facility and antenna system on Logan Road that was damaged in the storm and needs to be replaced.

Naples said fire and police transmit over this tower.

Council rehires municipal prosecutor

The council unanimously approved a resolution for a contract between the township and Christopher S. Bateman as chief municipal prosecutor as needed.

The contract is for an amount not to exceed $75,000.

Bateman has served as the prosecutor for the township for many years, and he is not seeking a raise in this contract.

Van Holten road work approved

A contract was signed with Top Line Construction Corp. for an improvement of Van Holten Road, from Meadow Road to the driveway of Van Holten Primary School.

The contract is for $322,182.93.

The work will include pavement repairs, new sidewalks, drainage improvements, curb repair and more.

Township engineer Robert Bogart said there will also be a little widening of the road.

Top Line hired for Garretson Road project

A contract was also signed with Top Line Construction Corp. for the Garretson Road project, from Country Club Road to the west exit driveway of the Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

The contract is for $300,776.44.

The work will include pavement repairs, sidewalk replacements, curb repair and upgrades of the traffic sensors.

“There were several residents who came with concerns about drainage along the sidewalk into the road,” said township administrator James Naples. “We will address the drainage and resurface the road.”

Improvements to be made on Gilbride Road

The council awarded a contract to Mountain View Development for 2013 improvements on Gilbride Road.

This is the section 1 project, and the contract is for a total of $743,445.97.
