Eco-Blast Coming to Bridgewater

The township will celebrate sustainability this weekend.

The township is holding its annual Bridgewater Eco-Blast Fair Saturday—and it is preparing for a celebration of sustainability and green practices.

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kid Street Park on Commons Way, behind the municipal building.

Activities include birdhouse painting for the kids, as well as a workshop to learn how to build a rain barrel through the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Pre-registration is required for the latter activity, and can be done by visiting water.rutgers.edu.

In addition, the fair will feature an opportunity to plant seedlings.

Aside from the actual activities, the fair will feature "Puddles," the NJ American Water Tap Truck, which will teach about public water treatment, and a visit from Gizmo the Robot, plus an Environmental Game Show with the Roots and Shoots program.

As for entertainment, live music will be provided by the Ageless Wonders Band, Off The Grid and the TLB Trio, which is made up of three students from .

Refreshments will be provided by , Starbucks, Applegate Farms, Smokehouse BBQ and Mangia Buono.

Plus, there will be raffles and giveaways of fruit trees, reusable water bottles, green backpacks and much more.

Exhibitors at the event will include the Bridgewater Environmental Commission, Sustainable Bridgewater, Somerset County Library, , NJ Water Supply Authority, , , Advanced Performance Solar and your very own Bridgewater Patch.

In addition to the fair events, the township will also be asking residents to recycle their gently worn shoes through Soles4Souls Inc., which has committed to collecting and distributing 12 million shoes in 2012 to those in poverty. Since 2005, the organization has distributed more than 13 million pairs of shoes.

At the fair Saturday, Soles4Souls and the Bridgewater Township Sustainability Task Force will be collecting new or gently worn shoes, and each donation will support the charity's initiative.
