Pedroso Selected to Run for Unexpired Council Term

Councilman Filipe Pedroso was nominated by the Republican Committee Saturday.

With the primaries approaching, the Bridgewater Republican Committee recently nominated Filipe Pedroso as its representative for the November elections.

on council after he was elected as mayor. Because of filling the unexpired term, Pedroso will serve this year, and will run in the November elections to finish Hayes's council term.

Scott Stephens, chairman of the Republican Committee, said the committee unanimously chose Pedroso as its candidate at Saturday's meeting. There were no challengers to Pedroso at the committee meeting.

Aside from Pedroso's election, none of the other council members are up for election this year.

"We actually wouldn't have any elections, but Dan [Hayes'] vacated seat has to be filled, which is why Filipe has to run," Stephens said.

The Bridgewater Democrats have not yet released information about anyone who might run against Pedroso in the November elections.

The primaries will be held June 5.
