Police Department Gets Grants for Vehicles, DWI Patrols
State awards Bridgewater more than $170,000 in grants.
The Bridgewater Police Department has received two state grants to boost public safety and purchase new equipment.
The department has received a $151,000 grant to buy two patrol cars and a four-wheel drive vehicle, Township Administrator James Naples said at Monday’s council meeting.
The police also received a $19,141 grant to fund extra drunken driving patrols.
”It’s a very wonderful program,” Naples said.
According to state statistics, the police department made 134 drunken driving arrests from July 2012 through June 2013.
In the previous 12-month period, July 2011 through June 2012, police made 176 drunken driving arrests.
