Poll: Is the New Municipal Tax Rate Sensible?

Let us know what you think about a 1.9 percent increase.

After much debate and discussion—and unanimous agreement that a 6.5 percent increase is too high—the in the municipal taxes for the 2012 budget.

But this drastic change in the tax increase also means that cuts will have to be made in the budget to account for it.

The budget committee has made a list of some options, but nothing has been finalized at this point. And the council is also taking into account the fact that several costs are required, including contract requirements; emergency appropriations after Hurricane Irene and the October snowstorm; and increased litigation, particularly with regard to the Al Falah lawsuit.

So, Bridgewater, we want to know what you think. With the current economy, and residents still struggling, was this change in the tax increase the right move by the council?
