Route 206 Bypass to be Named After Biondi

The Senate has already approved legislation dedicating the Route 206 bypass in Hillsborough to the late Assemblyman Peter Biondi—and now 16th District Assembly Republicans are hoping to get the Assembly to do the same, according to a release.

"Peter J. Biondi advocated fervently for this bypass because he knew what it meant to Hillsborough's quality-of-life and the realization of its downtown vision plan," said Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, R-16, in the release. "Now that this legislation has passed the Senate unanimously, it is my hope the Assembly will follow through with this fitting tribute to honor Pete's memory."

Ciattarelli and Assemblywoman Donna Simon have sponsored a bill to direct the state Transportation Commissioner to dedicate the bypass through the township as the "Peter J. Biondi Bypass."

Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman sponsored the companion bill in the Senate, which passed Monday, the release said.

"Peter Biondi left a lasting legacy in the communities he served and we can ensure his name will remain a visible reminder for future generations of what it means to be a truly dedicated public servant," Simon said in the release. "This is a worthy honor of a true American statesman that the Assembly should pass as soon as possible."

died in November after losing his battle with cancer. He had served in the 16th legislative district for 14 years, as well as as Hillsborough mayor and Somerset County freeholder.

Biondi also worked closely in getting funding for the Route 206 bypass.
