Planning Board's Mosque Meetings Rescheduled for Jan. 28

Hearings now pushed off to next week.

For the second time—in two days—Bridgewater's attempt to comply with a judge's order has been overruled by a winter storm.

The township announced Planning Board meetings for Tuesday and Wednesday to begin hearing the proposal for a mosque on Mountain Top Road have been canceled because of the winter storm affecting the area.

Instead of meetings planned for Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 to conclude the hearings, the board's review will begin on Jan. 28.

The hearings were scheduled to comply with an order by federal Judge Michael Shipp, after the applicant, the Al Falah Center, sued the township when first reviewed by the Planning Board, based on the application's failure to comply with an ordinance limiting houses of worship to sites on major roadways passed after the mosque application had been submitted.

Hearings were scheduled to begin anew on Dec. 11--but canceled when a winter storm hit the area that day, also.

The hearings are now scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School auditorium.
