State Planning to Improve I-287 and Route 202/206 Merger

The council supports the NJDOT's plans for improvements at the intersection.

Armed with concerns about traffic safety at the merger of the I-287 off-ramp and Route 202/206 in Bridgewater, the township council unanimously approved a resolution Monday supporting the goals of the New Jersey Department of Transportation to fix the problem.

“I hope no one is opposed to this,” said council president Howard Norgalis.

The NJDOT, according to the resolution, is planning to improve the merge conditions by creating or extending a south-bound acceleration lane where the merge occurs.

There has also been a proposal to investigate the benefits of improving signage to direct traffic to the , and Bridgewater Township Municipal Complex.

Signs are being proposed for about five locations along I-287 and Route 202/206 with advanced warning about the merger.

In March, the in Bridgewater to show off its plans for the acceleration lanes and possible signs.

Both roads are owned by the state, which is why the project is being handled by the NJDOT.
