Township Sets Temporary Budget, Other Costs

The council approved resolutions for budgets and salaries.

In setting up the township for 2012, the council approved the creation of a temporary budget to last until the official one is approved later this year—and the budget is set for $8,583,316.23.

These appropriations, according to the resolution approved at Sunday's reorganization meeting, do not include costs for capital improvement funds and public assistance, as well as interest and debt redemption.

With the inclusion of those extra costs, the budget appropriations for 2012, at this point, rise to $11,237,023.60.

According to state statute, the temporary budget for 2012 is required to be set at 26.25 percent of the 2011 budget—$32,968,347.53—without including interest, debt redemption and capital improvement funds.

In addition to these funds, the council also approved a resolution for a separate temporary budget for sewer utilities.

The council set appropriations of $2,566,241.76, which is the required 26.25 percent of the 2011 appropriations—$9,776,159.10.

In addition to the budget, salaries were set for several employees as positions are changing with the .

Naples's salary was set at $147,000 for a period beginning Jan. 30, 2012, but pro-rated for 2012.

As for currently acting township administrator Robert Bogart—who will hold the position until Naples returns before moving back to his former position as director of municipal services—his salary was set by the council at $121,478.

Bogart has said this is the same salary he had when he left the position, and is slightly lower than his salary as township administrator.

Also in appointing positions, the council approved a resolution to set a contract with Suplee, Clooney & Co. as auditor for the calendar year, in an amount not to exceed $59,225.
