What Cuts Would You Be Willing to See in the Budget?

The council is preparing to introduce budget amendments Monday.

With the tax rate increase recently changed from for the 2012 municipal budget, the council is now working on identifying possible cuts or other changes to account for the decrease.

On Monday, the council is expected to discuss amendments to the budget to account for the change.

At a recent meeting, councilwoman Christine Henderson Rose outlined some cuts that had been discussed by the budget committee if any were ever necessary. She presented them to the council, but emphasized that none had been decided on or fully discussed yet.

Those discussed cuts included for after-hours health inspections; one recreation program; one-third of the police overtime budget, which includes officers for required court appearances; administrative support of senior citizen programs; computer upgrades; ; and a planning secretary.

But included in the budget already are emergency appropriations for litigation and costs from Hurricane Irene and the October snowstorm.
