What Roads Should be Repaved in Bridgewater?

Tell us where you would like to see repairs made.

Road projects are taking place all over town, with major changes on Route 22 near Chimney Rock Road, and smaller work being done on .

But is the road you travel most being treated?

We want to know what roads in town you think are most in need of repairs, repaving or overlay work.

Are they county or state roads? Or local roads as you travel through the neighborhood?

Make your voice heard, Bridgewater, and tell us in the comments what roads you think are most in need of repairs and why.

Bridgewater Avenue and all the side streets. All roads in the neighborhood are in terrible condition. If they ever get around to improving these roads, they should also make drainage improvements, as there is currently no functional storm drainage system in place.

Brown Rd and the roads leading down to and around Sunset Lake.

Gillbride Road in Martinsville !! It is a very dangerous, curved, hilly road with a tremendous amount of pot holes that are constantly becoming larger. The storm drain grates are caving in. For several years a paving crew comes out and spends several weeks patching. It is almost like they are training how to patch pot holes. Why not pave the road correctly once. There are no guard rails on the turns which have 50ft plus cliffs. The school busses ride that stree every day several times a day. The roadway is also to narrow, you have to pull over to the side in hopes that the bus can pass you.

Donahue Road, which has been patched a few years ago, is extremely bumpy and Krams Trail has many large cracks. It is terrible that the township has let the roads get so bad.

Pine Street in Bradley Gardens could use some serious work - i don't think my internal organs are in the right places anymore.

Meadow Rd. is terrible. It was paved in a couple of segments recently...but two of the segments have a .2mi section between them that is horrible. Never saw this done before...a gap of .2mi, filled with potholes. I got my 4th flat tire on my bicycle yesterday. If you ride or walk it, you would see many unfilled potholes. Church rd. is even worse, which makes it odd that people cut through at 50 miles an hour. There are many roads around town in need of improvement. Thanks for asking for this feedback...hope it helps.

All the roads in the Finderne section, south of Main St.: Ramsey, Rhia, Field St.,Manville Blvd. & Newberry are all terrible. A friend lives in the eastern end of Bridgewater, on Sebring Ave. and was appalled at how bad our streets were! Why can't our streets be well paved and curbed?

Brown road. It makes your teeth chatter when you drive it. We have been patient. Needs it now!

Country Club Rd.

You are right, pretty much the entire road system in the Fiderne Neighborhood is in shambles. We have one tiny random sidewalk curb on Bridgewater Ave at the stalled development across from the Reformed Church (Carriage CT) everything else is drainage ditches, crumbled asphalt and weeds. Half the ditches have been back filled and paved by the residents so they can park on the street, which has got to be a huge contributor to the drainage problems we have in big storms.

Vosseller Ave, between Routes 28 and 22. Can't get to Dunkin Doughnuts (Rt 28 and Vosseller) without spilling my coffee due to potholes --- If that's not reason enough!

Country Club Road from 22 north to Van Holten, Garretson Road from the Municipal Complex to a quarter mile west of Hill Lane, Van Holten Road as mentioned previously, Commons Way in front of the Municipal Complex. Intersection of Country Club and Garretson has to be reconstructed, not repaved, it's in that terrible a condition. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

Van Holten Road, Country Club Road, Juniper Lane and Church Road are all in advanced deteriorated conditon and in need of paving. Thank you for allowing us to provide our input.

Brookside Drive in Martinsville has been patched so many times that there is hardly any of the original surface showing through. It's not only an eyesore, but is extremely dangerous to the many bikers, walkers, runners and drivers who are traveling on the road. Our families have even commented on the poor condition of our roads. Is this the impression we want to leave on those that visit?

In 2011 *and* 2012, either the county or the township scrambled to patch this minefield so that the cyclists from the Tour of Somerville event have less chance of crashing. Under the power lines is a sinkhole that gets fixed every 2-3 years (then sinks again), and the stretch close to Washington Valley Rd is third-world. Drive any of the roads from Bridgewater to Bernards Twp and you immediately see improvement as soon as you go into Bernards...and this goes for snow plowing as well.
Mike June 22, 2012 at 12:39 PM
If they fix Church Rd, people will do 70mph.

Waiting for someone who dodges a pothole to cause an accident by veering into the oncoming traffic. There is a point to this: by leaving the road so bad, people will buy luxury cars and SUVs to save their sanity, thus helping the economy.

Mine Road, from Mountaintop/Papen to Crim (it's only 1/4 mile). This very steep hill, combined with snow/icerain, is beyond hazardous. And it would be nice to know what they're doing at Mine & North Bridge/Foothill (looks significant).

I agree Cathi. Van Holten Road is soooooo bad :(
Lou June 22, 2012 at 03:53 PM
Van Holten Road is a disaster especially where there is a school :(

The roads around Sunset Lake, more specifically, Coriell Drive and South Shore Drives. Coriell is a nightmare. It is very narrow with a blind sharp turn. There is no way to avoid the enormous pot holes and patches. Quite a bit of traffic goes from Coriell on to South Shore then up Hemlock/Colonial to cut over from WV Road to Brown. This is also a big school bus route.

Lived in Bridgewater for 27 years and Graybar Drive has never been repaved despite extensive patching every year. Curiously the newer road connected to it has been repaved once in the same period.

Other than Washington Valley Rd., I don't think there's one road in our area (Hillcrest, Brookside Dr. and OMG Vosseler Ave.), that doesn't make my bones hurt when I drive them!
MaryBeth July 02, 2012 at 12:14 PM
Billian Street. They recently paved SOME of the street and stopped at Frog Hollow. Really?? The entire road needs to be done.
Mike July 02, 2012 at 04:05 PM
From your lips to someone's ears: what do I see on my commute this morning but Brown Rd getting paved. And not just a skim coat; they're going whole-hog! See pics I posted above.

Mallard drive in Martinsville. Whole chunks breaking off and leaving rubble and potholes everywhere. Really brings down the appearance of the otherwise nice block (and area).

gilbride in the martinsville section. since it's now august and the vosseller construction is underway, i have had to use gilbride quite a bit more recently, and that road is treacherous. i remember riding a school bus on it; it was hell everyday.
Dave Cousineau September 12, 2012 at 03:52 PM
+1 on Van Holten. All the bus traffic makes the existing potholes worse and worse by the week. I also nominate the intersection of Country Club and Garretson. Not only are the potholes bad, but they interrupt normal traffic flow, as you need to take the right-hand turn from Garretson WB to Country Club NB *really* slowly to avoid ruining your car.

Van Holten to right on Meadow and up any side road off of Meadow including Barrington. They continue to do these ridiculous patch jobs vs. actually re-paving. Check that, they re-paved some of Meadow, and patched other sections! Makes no sense what-so-ever!
