Back to School Means New Clothes, Electronics

There are lots of clothing and electronic offerings for back to school.

The school year is about to begin, and with it comes days shopping for new clothes, new electronics and lots more to get students back into the vein of learning and having fun.

Digitally, there are many different programs providing opportunities for students as they work on their assignments both in high school and college.

According to Nicole Owens—in the community service development department with the Microsoft Store, located in the —Office Home and Student, and Office University, have been extremely popular in the last month. She said MLA format is required to prevent copyright infringement, and the program assists with it.

“This includes our Back to School Programs that are running every week through the end of September,” she said.

The first program, Owens said, is called “Bully Awareness and Internet Safety,” and talks about ways in which students can speak out against bullying

“As supporters of the bully project, we will most likely showcase some stories from other kids,” she said. “We will also show them how to use the Internet safely.”

In another program, called “Digital Art Smarts,” students will learn how to use a digital camera’s settings, as well as how to edit photos, adjust lighting and colors and add filters.

Another program will be called “Creative Writing,” Owens said, and will help students develop creative stories through the use of Word, with brainstorming techniques and more.

“Music Theory,” Owens said, allows students to learn how to use Microsoft products to create music, and “The Science of Kinect” will teach how to use the Kinect Sensor.

Courses will be held once a day around 3 p.m. or 3:30 p.m., through Sept. 28.

But for those more interested in their new school clothes than in technology, will be holding its special “Back to School Fashion Show” Sept. 15 at 1:30 p.m.

The program—according to Karen Orsini, with Lord & Taylor—will feature students between ages 4 and 12.

The focus of the fashion show this year will be on peasant tops, colored denim and graphic tees, in addition to the traditional preppy look.
