BOE 'Pleased' to Have Contract Settlement

The board of education president makes a short statement at Tuesday's meeting.

Board of education president Evan Lerner said Tuesday that he is pleased to report on the memorandum of agreement reached by the negotiations committee.

The on by the and the Board of Education during a second fact-finding session Aug. 16.

As per an agreement with the fact finder, details of the contract will not be released until it has been ratified.

Lerner said during Tuesday's board of education meeting that the negotiations committee is glad that the contract has been settled and they can move forward.

"We are pleased and hopeful that this is behind us, and we can move forward together hand in hand," he said.

Now that the memorandum of agreement has been reached, Lerner said, it is still subject to the preparation of salary guides, which are currently being worked on, and ratification of the contract by both the union and the board of education individually.

The contract could come before the board of education as soon as the last meeting in September, which has been scheduled for Sept. 24.

"I would like to thank [B-REA president] Steve Beatty and the whole team for coming back and going through the process with us," Lerner said.
