Bridgewater Teens Named to USA Swim Team

One former graduate and two current students were named after being on the Somerset Valley YMCA swim team.

The Somerset Valley YMCA has announced that seven high school athletes, including three from Bridgewater, have been named to the USA Swimming's Scholastic All-America team for 2011.

These swimmers were all members of the YMCA swim team.

Victor Luo and Dana Yu, both students at , and 2011 BRHS graduate Thomas Rinaldi were named to the team.

"This is an excellent achievement and goes to show how well-balanced our swimmers are," said YMCA head coach Matt Donovan in a release from the YMCA. "They are the truest example of what the term 'student athlete' embodies. I could not be prouder of these tremendous young people."

According to the release, the USA team is made up of high school swimmers from across the country who have earned a 3.5 or higher grade point average, as well as meeting the required time cut for one event.

Donovan said, in the release, that this is the largest group of swimmers from the Somerset Valley YMCA to make the nationwide team.

The USA team includes 1,051 women and 708 men, for a total of 1,759 high school student-athletes selected for the honor.

Also making the team from the Somerset Valley YMCA are David Chung, of Hillsborough High School; Sean Johnson, a 2011 graduate of Hillsborough High School; Silke Herold, a 2011 graduate of Hunterdon Central High School; and Dana Rzewnicki, a 2011 graduate of Piscataway High School.
