Dinner, Shopping, a Little Golf Mark Reunion

opened its doors in 1960, with its first graduating class leaving in 1962—and now the students are coming back to celebrate 50 years.

When it originally opened, the school had 619 students in the ninth and 10th grades, with no one in 11th and 12th grades. It wasn't until 1962 when all classes were filled, and the school had a total of 1,393 students

When the seniors graduated in 1962, there were a total of 235 12th graders.

In 2012, there were a total of 675 students graduating, and 2,884 in total in the building—about triple the number of seniors and more than double the number of students themselves.

And this coming weekend, the students from that original 1962 graduating class from BRHS will be returning to Bridgewater to celebrate a 50-year reunion.

Those organizing the reunion have a full weekend of events planned, beginning with pizza Friday at the Venetian Grille in Somerville at 6 p.m. And the evening will include the opportunity to enjoy 50s night along Main Street in Somerville, checking out oldies cars and listening to a concert by the courthouse.

Saturday is a full day of reunion events, beginning with a golf outing at the Neshanic Valley Country Club, starting at 10 a.m. Golf pro, and BRHS classmate, Don Vallerio helped put the program together.

Also on Saturday will be a shopping spree lined up at as people from the class will be around to give opinions and the class is invited to shop to their heart's content.

But the main event is the Saturday evening reunion dinner at , with cocktails beginning at 6 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 7 p.m.

Plus, hotels rooms are reserved at the for those who need a room.

According to Class of 1962 graduate Melissa Smith, who is helping to organize the reunion, there will be a yearbook signing at the Saturday dinner.

"Anyone who wants to bring their yearbook can have it signed," she said. "I know I missed out on getting a lot of signatures back then. It should be fun and interesting to see what we write now compared to back then."

And a compiled yearbook program available at the reunion will have surveys from classmates about achievements from high school and what they have been doing over the past 50 years.
