Dyer Likely to be Named Interim Superintendent of Schools

Contract will be approved at school board's August meeting

The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional Board of Education is expected to approve a contract with Assistant Superintendent Cheryl Dyer to serve as interim superintendent until a permanent replacement is found for retiring superintendent Michael Schilder.

According to a resolution passed by the board on Tuesday, Board President Patrick Breslin is authorized to negotiate with Dyer an employment contract for interim superintendent.

That contract, following approval by the county superintendent, will be presented to the board for formal approval at the next meeting on Aug. 27.

Until that time, Dyer will continue to serve as acting superintendent.

As assistant superintendent, Dyer leads a team of curriculum supervisors and oversees everything related to student achievement including curriculum evaluation, development, and implementation, teacher evaluation, professional development, and No Child Left Behind legislation. She also assisted the superintendent in all matters related to the operation of the district including budget and policy development, personnel decisions, contract negotiations and other legal matters, and community relations.

Before joining Bridgewater-Raritan, Dyer was the director of curriculum and instruction for the Bernards Township School District.

She began her teaching career in 1978 as a social studies teacher in the Freehold Regional High School District after earning a bachelors degree in Social Studies Education from Rutgers. She has earned masters degrees in Learning and Cognition from Rutgers and Educational Administration from Monmouth University.

The school board has set a target date of Jan. 1 for a new superintendent.
