"The Golden Age of Bicycle Racing in New Jersey" at the Bridgewater Library
Author and bicycling historian Michael Gabriele will join a panel of local cycling luminaries to discuss “The Golden Age of Bicycle Racing in New Jersey,” in the Meeting Room from 7-9 pm. The talk will highlight some of the people and events that helped shape 130 years of the sport in the Garden State.
A discussion and historic photos depicting how bicycle racing traces its roots back to 1880s and evolved though the “golden” era in the 1900s will be included.
Somerville’s long-lasting crown as “The Kentucky Derby of Cycling,” will be discussed by Middle Earth executive and race director Dan Puntillo; many-time national champion and race announcer Joe Saling; and Vince Menci, a Somerville resident who competed in the early Somerville tours after World War II. Cycling enthusiasts of all ages are welcomed to join in the dialogue.
