Irene Causes Rutgers to Move Up Move-In Date for Students

Predictions for the weekend trigger change to Aug. 27.

Move-in day for students at Rutgers University New Brunswick and Piscataway has been moved to Aug. 27, Gregory S. Blimling, Rutgers vice president for student affairs, announced Wednesday.

The threat of Hurricane Irene is the cause of the moved date, Blimling announced in an emailed message to the campus community.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause you and your family, but given the likelihood of severe weather on Sunday, your safety must be our primary concern," Blimling said.

Blimling said that a New Student Convocation that was scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday has also been canceled, as a result of the inclement weather.

"We ask that all new students try to arrange their schedules to move into their residence halls on Saturday, August 27, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you are unable to move in Saturday, please do so on Monday, August 29, after the storm has passed and it is safe to travel," he said.
