National Merit Scholarships Commends 36 BRHS Students' Performance

Students were among top five percent in nation participating in merit scholarship program.

The National Merit Scholarship Program commended 36 Bridgewater-Raritan High School students for their "exceptional academic promise," BRHS Principal Brett Charleston announced Friday.

The students will not advance in National Merit's scholarship program, but were among the top five percent of the nearly 1.5 million students participating in the program. A total of 34,000 students received the commendation award this year.

"These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation," a National Merit Scholarship Program representative said. 

Seven other BRHS students are still among the contenders for the National Merit Scholarships, which will be announced in the spring. 

The 36 commended students are: Joelle Abi-Nader, Joseph Bruno-Metzger, Joshua Chan, Abigail Delgado, Sahaj Desai, Sameer Dhavalikar, Hyan Duhac, Sydney Engelstein, Ahchit Gupta, Shivani Gupta, Chandni Guhnani, Emily He.

Amy Ho, Shflenlk Jain, Ginay Kim, Erica Koplitz, Nikhil Kunapuli, Robert Lavhoff, Skyleh Le, Kevin Ll, Stephanie Lin, Sarah Malek, Brendan Mao, Sahil Mehrotha, Ana Melentijevic, Sahika Menon, Nicole Palumbo.

Ahjun Patel, Riya Patel, Phiyanka Rathnam, Aasha Heddy, Rachel Saperstein, Victoria Shi, Jennifer Xu, Emily Zheng and Emily Zinnikas.
