New Principal Appointed at High School

Brett Charleston will begin July 1.

Current Egg Harbor Township High School principal Brett Charleston was appointed Tuesday as the new principal for , as of July 1.

Charleston will replace principal , who has been serving as interim after the retirement of James Riccobono.

Ludwig will continue in his position until June 30.

"Mr. Charleston is a true instructional leader, and has been responsible for many initiatives and improvements at Egg Harbor Township High School," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Schilder when he made the recommendation to the board for the appointment.

Schilder said Charleston has also held positions as athletic director and high school social studies teacher.

Charleston has a bachelor of science degree from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and a master's degree in education from Holy Family University in Philadelphia.

Schilder said a committee was formed—with 10 administrators, high school teachers and parents—to conduct first round interviews with prospective principals. He and the personnel committee conducted second round interviews with two finalists.

Charleston was chosen as the best candidate following the interviews, and the board of education unanimously approved the appointment.

According to the resolution approved by the board, Charleston will receive a yearly salary of $155,000.

"He is known for his outstanding work ethic, constant desire to enhance student achievement and involving others in key initiatives," Schilder said.
