Nursey School Hosts Pancake Breakfast

The school raises funds for its programs and equipment.

The Little Friends of Jesus Nursery School, in Martinsville, hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Pancake Breakfast on March 3. More than 100 members of the community attended the event.

For a nominal fee, attendees enjoyed a delicious meal of pancakes, eggs, sausage and breakfast cookies, along with a basket raffle and entertainment from a magician. The event is an important fundraiser for the school, which is open to children of all races and religions ages 2-and-a-half through 6 years.

The St. Patrick’s breakfast was organized by the Vocationist Sisters who live on site and also have a facility in Florham Park.

“We hold this breakfast as a fun way to celebrate the holiday and come together as a community,” said Sr. Romilda Borges, the school’s director. “The funds we raise from this event allow us to purchase additional capital equipment and maintain a reasonable tuition for our families, which is especially important during these challenging economic times. I would like to thank the many local businesses who donated items for our raffle and the members of the community who attended.”

Parents also supported this event.

“The breakfast is a great way to connect with other families," said Robert Zeiman, of Martinsville, father of 4-year-old Gavin. "Our children know each other and can identify parents, but as parents we only get to see each other briefly during pick-up and drop-off. I really appreciate the feeling of inclusion and strong moral code this school brings to the community. We’re an interfaith family, and their acceptance of our situation has been exceptional. The Vocationist sisters instill acceptance and inclusion each and every day.”

Student Kailey Schissler, 12, won a $100 gift certificate for Lia Sophia Jewelery in the basket raffle.

“I’m already looking forward to next year’s breakfast,” she said.
