Panthers Ice Hockey Defeats Team for First Time in Years

The Bridgewater boys ice hockey team began the season with a 3-2 win over Pingry.

The Panthers ice hockey team began the 2011-2012 season by beating a team the boys have not be able to beat in the past few years.

The Panthers, a young freshman-heavy team, were able to defeat top-notch Pingry on Friday night at the .

After a scoreless first period, both teams came out fighting in the second period with big hits being thrown from both sides. Within a minute of each other Pat Lackey and Dave Monahan were both able to score for their respective teams, tying the game at 1-1.

Panther Robbie Campbell made some big saves in the second period, but he was not able to stop junior Mac Hugin from ending the second period with Pingry up 2-1.

Monahan later tied the game for the second time when he sniped sophomore goalie Josh Creelman bar down halfway through the third period. In the last three minutes of play, Monahan set up fellow senior Aaron Golding for a goal to give Bridgewater its third goal of the game.

Although Pingry had an extra player on the ice in the last minute of play, the team was not able to put another goal past Campbell. Bridgewater won its first of the season, 3-2, with Campbell stopping 32 shots and Pingry's Creelman stopping 18.
