Robotics Team Gets Competition, Storage Room

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School FIRST 303 Robotics Team has just gotten a little more space and competition for its coming year.

Superintendent of Schools Michael Schilder said at the Sept. 11 board of education meeting that high school principal Brett Charleston has looked into requests that were made by the robotics team at an August board meeting.

The team has between 50 and 100 members, and builds robots, while also trying to promote science technology, engineering and mathematics.

At the August meeting, members of the team came forward to request holding a team competition in Bridgewater, something that has been done at other schools around the state. They said it would be a good revenue-raising opportunity for the team, and could be held around spring break.

In the past, the team has held successful team competitions over the summer, but they would like to host one during the regular season now.

In addition, the students said, they wanted to request use of a room in the 200 building of the high school to store equipment.

Schilder said at the Sept. 11 meeting, that both requests have been approved.

First, Schilder said, the tournament has been scheduled at the high school for April 5 through April 7.

“Thanks to Mr. Charleston, that was resolved,” he said.

Schilder said Charleston also looked into possibilities for storage, and found room in the 200 building.

“There is a room that is being cleared out, and it will be a good space,” Schilder said. “That is being cleared out now.”
