Dance-a-Thon Raises More Than $700 for Schooling

Dancers prance, wiggle and strut for an hour to raise money for African school children.

Dance, dance, dance was the call in the gym at the Thursday as the school held its first Roots & Shoots Dance-a-Thon fundraiser.

The proceeds from the event are going to the Students Raising Students Scholarship Program in Kenya and Tanzania, Africa.

One of the driving forces of the program, according to sixth grade teacher Katrina Macht, is for the participants to understadn the value of the program.

"There is no school after the sixth grade in Kenya and Tanzania," she said. "Just $250 will provide for a student to attend secondary school for a year."

In total, the event raised $777 for the program.
