An online survey seeking input from the community and district staff on what qualities the new superintendent should have has been posted on the district’s website, http://www.brrsd.k12.nj.us, and a series of meetings has been scheduled throughout September to gather more input. The survey will be online until Sept. 30.
The school board will be posting progress reports, a timeline and all other relevant information to keep the process as open and transparent as possible.
The search is being done under the guidance of Jane Kershner, director of field services for the New Jersey School Boards Association. Kershner will be facilitating the public input sessions, collecting and compiling survey data, developing search criteria and interview questions and providing assistance to board members at every step of the selection process.
The following public input sessions have been scheduled:,
- Administrators: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 11.
- Staff members: 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at the high school.
- Staff members: 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at the high school.
- Community members: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Wade Building.
- Community members: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the high school.
The survey can be directly accessed at http://w ww.surveymonkey.com/s/BRSuptinput2013.
Some of the questions on the survey are:
What critical issues will the school district face in the next 3-5 years?
What educational background, training and experience should the new superintendent have?
What leadership style / personal characteristics are important in a new superintendent?
If you could ask the candidates one question during the interview process, what would that question be?
Responses to the survey could be made through the link above, sending an email to Kershner at JKershner@njsba.org, or mail to New Jersey School Boards Association, 413 West State St., Trenton, NJ 08618.
