School Will be in Session Nov. 8 and 9

The plan is dependent on whether power is restored to the schools.

The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District will be open Nov. 8 and 9, provided power has returned, now that the NJEA Teachers' Convention has been cancelled.

According to a message sent from Superintendent of Schools Michael Schilder, the days off have been cancelled and students will have schools so long as power has been restored and the buildings are accessible.

In addition, the decision on whether to close school on Monday will be made Sunday, based on what happens with the power and road clearing.

Schilder said in the message that none of the schools had serious damage from the storm, only minor water damage at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School. And as of Friday, he said, John F. Kennedy Primary and Milltown Primary had power.

Unfortunately, Schilder said, the damage to power lines and roadways has been massive throughout the township.

Currently, Schilder said, bus access to neighborhoods with students attending Crim Primary, Hamilton Primary, Hillside Intermediate, the middle school and the Bridgewater-Raritan High School is almost impossible.

And, Schilder said, there is currently no access at all to Crim Primary School.

At this time, Schilder said, all extra-curricular and co-curricular activities are cancelled until further notice.

"Even though we could hold practices outside, I do not feel comfortable putting students and parents on the roads until traffic lights are back on, downed power lines repaired and gas reserves restored," he said in the message.
