Seven BRHS Students on National Merit Scholarship Shortlist

Students in the running for prestigious $2,500 National Merit scholarships.

Seven Bridgewater-Raritan High School students will find out in the spring if they will be receiving $2,500 scholarships in the National Merit Scholarship program, after being named semifinalists this week.

Jennifer Fang, Kunal Hegde, Liam McGill, Jeremy Meola, Aneek Patel, and Richard and Yunchao Wu are among the nearly 16,000 students nationally selected from about 1.5 million applicants to the 2014 scholarship. In the spring, the 8,000 scholarship recipients will be announced.

The annual scholarship program awards $2,500 scholarships annually to the top high school students in the country, based on the student's essay entry, SAT scores, and recommendations.

To become a finalist, the semifinalists and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the student’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
