Students Honored, Basilone Field House Gets Facelift

Bridgewater-Raritan High School sees changes to start 2012-13 year.

With just over a week into the new school year, Superintendent of Schools Michael Schilder presented an update Tuesday on the status of the , including new programs and a Basilone Field House facelift.

According to Schilder, there are already some new programs being implemented by new principal Brett Charleston.

“We have a new principal, and that brings new ideas,” Schilder said.

First off, Schilder said, there will be a new , where teachers can nominate a student for the honor. The nominations are then reviewed by the staff and one person is chosen as the winner for the week.

In addition, Schilder said, they are implementing a staff member of the month program at the high school, through which fellow staff members can recognize their colleagues.

“And there will be a weekly newsletter called ‘Principal’s Weekly Update’ for staff and community,” he said.

In addition to changes inside the school, Schilder said a facelift has been completed on the Basilone Field House, including painting of both the interior and exterior.

“It looks a lot better than it did before,” he said.

The changes also include exterior landscaping, donated by the Pop Warner program, and consisting of four new trees, fencing and more.

And the being constructed in the parking lot of the high school, Schilder said, are almost completed.
