Violence, Vandalism Report Tops Tuesday Meeting

The board of education will be holding its work meeting Tuesday, and Superintendent of Schools Michael Schilder is preparing to make a report on violence and vandalism in the district for the end of the 2011-2012 school year.

The report is made about two times a year on incidents of violence in the past few months of the school year.

The last report was made in January, and 27 cases of bullying were confirmed in the district through December 2011.

With concerns being spread throughout the district, and across the state, finance committee chairwoman Lynne Hurley is expected to talk about the new lunch requirements, which have led to higher costs and less food all in the name of pushing healthy eating among students.

Students have expressed concerns that they are paying more, but not feeling filled by the meals they are getting at schools throughout the district.

But officials have said they must comply with the state regulations or risk fines.

In addition, personnel committee chairwoman Cindy Cullen is expected to discuss possible solutions to the increased requirements for observations of teachers through EE4NJ.

The possibility for a dress code at the Bridgewater-Raritan High School will also be discussed, after having been put off over the summer because of a desire to ensure that the discussions are occurring when families have returned from summer vacations.

Discussions will also be held on budget predictions with regard to textbook updates.

The meeting will be held at 8 p.m at the Harmon V. Wade Administration Building on Newmans Lane.
