Volunteers 'Stuff the Bus' With Supplies For Those in Need

United Way drive provides school supplies.

United Way of Northern New Jersey staff and volunteers continued the task of sorting, stuffing and shipping out literally tons of school supplies for Somerset County families in need at The United Reformed Church in Somerville during the culmination of its annual United Way Stuff the Bus drive Tuesday.

The United Way Stuff the Bus drive annually collects new school supplies to benefit 6,000 children who qualify for the federal free lunch program.

"United Way research shows that nearly 30 percent of Somerset County families do not earn enough to be self sufficient," said Laura Bruno, of United Way of Northern New Jersey. "Stuff the Bus seeks to alleviate the strain on already strapped household budgets and give local children the basic tools they need to survive in school."
