Blue Crabs Defeat Patriots 5-1

Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (7-5, 36-46) defeated the Somerset Patriots (6-6, 52-29) 5-1 Monday evening in the series opener from Regency Furniture Stadium.

 

In the bottom of the first inning third baseman Angel Chavez hit a RBI single to give Southern Maryland an early 1-0 advantage.

Designated hitter Daryle Ward evened the contest at 1-1 in the top of the third inning as he laced a RBI single.

Southern Maryland retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as designated hitter Matt Murton sliced a RBI single and first baseman CJ Ziegler pounded a two run home run (9) making the score 4-1.

 

The Blue Crabs added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as second baseman Jake Opitz brought home a run via a RBI fielder’s choice.

 

Daryl Thompson (2-3) earned the win tossing seven innings while allowing just one run. Derell McCall (4-4) endured the loss as he hurled 6.2 innings while surrendering four earned runs.
