Patriots Shut Out Revolution

Somerset gets great pitching performance by Roy Merritt.

The  defeated the York Revolution 3-0 in front of 6,739 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Yunesky Sanchez (6).

Somerset added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run double by Corey Smith for a 3-0 advantage.

Patriots starter Roy Merritt (7-6) picked up the win, allowing just two hits and eight strikeouts in eight scoreless innings pitched. Derrick Gordon (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 7.1 innings pitched. Andrew Dobies earned his seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots season will continue on the road until Friday, August 24 when they return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution. The game includes 15th Anniversary Back To School Folders (1st 1,500 Kids) and entertainment from the ZOOperstars.
