Camden, N.J.–The Somerset Patriots (13-11) shutout the Camden Riversharks (10-14) 8-0 from Campbell’s Field Tuesday night in the first of six games between these two squads this week.
Patriots starting pitcher Paul Phillips earned his Atlantic League-leading fourth win of the season as he was brilliant throwing seven shutout innings, tying a season-high in strikeouts with seven while scattering just three hits.
The Patriots scored all of their runs in the pivotal sixth inning. They sent 12 batters to the plate in their eight run sixth frame. Left fielder Aaron Mathews, right fielder Johnny Drennen, second baseman Freddie Bynum and first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke all collected RBI singles. Designated hitter Freddy Sandoval broke open the game with a bases clearing three run double.
Bynum extended his hitting streak to 12 games. He finished the evening 3-for-4 and now has eight multi-hit games in his last 11 contests.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season will continue on the road until on Thursday, May 24 when the Patriots return home to take on the Camden Riversharks at TD Bank Ballpark at 11:05 a.m.
