Patriots Split Doubleheader with Barnstormers

Somerset wins the first game of two-game set.

The split a double header with the Lancaster Barnstormers at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1:

The Barnstormers defeated the Patriots 3-1 in the first game.

Lancaster scored to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Blake Gailen.

The Barnstormers tacked on a run the following inning after Ryan Harvey (26) drove a solo homerun over the left field wall to make the score 2-0.

A solo blast by Emerson Frostad (7) in the top of the sixth inning increased the lead for Lancaster and made the score 3-0.

A groundout by Yunesky Sanchez in the bottom half of the sixth inning allowed Joe Holden to score for Somerset to make the score 3-1.

The Patriots threatened with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to plate any runs.

J.D. Durbin (13-9) picked up the win for York after allowing an earned run while striking out five in 5.2 innings pitched.  Carlton Smith (3-4) suffered the loss for Somerset, surrendering an earned run in three innings of work.

Game2:

The Patriots defeated the Barnstormers 7-4 in the second game.

The Barnstormers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Fehlandt Lentini.

Somerset answered in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run home run by Yusuf Carter (11) to take the lead.

Lancaster scored three to make the score 4-3 in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Travis Denker (8).

The Patriots regained the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, including two runs on RBI singles by Freddie Bynum and Carter that gave Somerset a 7-4 advantage.

Patriots starter Justin Cassel (6-9) got the win after allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.  Mark Brackman (8-9) suffered the loss for the Barnstormers, allowing seven runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.  Brandon Braboy came on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his third save of the season.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season will continue at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, September 12th when the Patriots take on the Sugar Land Skeeters.  The game includes a chance for all fans to play Baseball Bingo.
