Patriots Triple Up Bluefish

Somerset secures its 23rd come-from-behind win of the season.

Bridgeport, Conn.–The (23-27, 58-62) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (22-24, 53-63) 9-3 Friday night from Harbor Yard in the first game of this three game weekend series. After trailing 3-1 after four innings, the Patriots scored eight unanswered runs to notch their 23rd come from behind victory of the year.

In the top of the first inning shortstop Yunesky Sanchez socked a RBI double to give the Patriots an early 1-0 lead.

Bridgeport quickly responded in the home half of the first inning as designated hitter Willis Otanez blasted a two run home run (4) to left field to put the Bluefish in front 2-1.

The Bluefish scored again in the bottom of the second as second baseman Luis Figueroa blooped a RBI single to expand the lead to 3-1.

Somerset scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 3-2 after center fielder Joe Holden notched a RBI single to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Designated hitter Jeff Nettles tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the sixth as he recorded a RBI single for Somerset.

The Patriots took the lead in the top of the seventh as Sanchez ripped a two out, two strike, two RBI double down the left field line to give Somerset a 5-3 advantage.

Somerset added four insurance runs in the eighth inning as catcher Adam Donachie hit a bases clearing three RBI double and Holden collected another RBI via a groundout to give the Patriots a comfortable 9-3 lead which would be the final.

Derell McCall earned his eighth win of the season as he tossed seven strong innings allowing just three runs. Brad Thompson suffered his fourth loss of the 2012 campaign.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots season will continue on the road until Friday, September 7th when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The game features a Post-Game Fireworks Show and Diabetes Awareness Night.
