Patriots Win First-Ever Game Against Sugar Land

Yusuf Carter leads the way from the plate.

The defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 8-4 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

Yusuf Carter led the way for Somerset with five RBIs, including three on a home run.

The Skeeters jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. A double by Bubba Bell, an RBI triple by Drew Locke, and a fielder’s choice by Jason Botts gave Sugar Land a 2-0 advantage.

Somerset answered back the following inning on the three run home run by Carter (2) to take a 3-2 lead.

The Patriots added a run in the bottom half of the third after Carter walked with the bases loaded to force home Jesse Hoorelbeke and make the score 4-2.

Sugar Land cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Botts (2).

The Skeeters scored a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Locke to even the score at four.

Somerset rallied to score three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jeff Nettles, a fielder’s choice by Carter, and a sacrifice fly by Rex Rundgren to regain the lead.

A triple by Rundgren and an RBI single by Jonny Tucker added another run for the Patriots in the eighth inning for the 8-4 final.

Patriots starter Mike MacDonald (1-0) got the win after allowing four runs in five innings of work. Sugar Land starter Ryan McKeller (0-2) suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs on seven hits in four innings pitched.
