Somerset Patriots Hire Cory Domel As New Pitching Coach

Somerset Patriots hire Cory Domel as new pitching coach.

Bridgewater, NJ- The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced Cory Domel as the team’s new pitching coach.

Domel was most recently the pitching coach for the Amarillo Sox of the American Association during the 2012 season.

Before his time in Amarillo, Domel spent four seasons in the Frontier League. In 2011, he was the pitching coach for the Windy City ThunderBolts. Prior to that, Domel spent three seasons in the same position for the Midwest Sliders and Oakland County Cruisers.

"Cory brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our staff as the new pitching coach. He's been successful at every level he has coached at, ranging from college to the professional ranks. I feel he's a great fit for the Patriots and somebody our pitchers are going to really learn from and respond to this season," said Brett Jodie, the manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

He began his coaching career in 2002 as the pitching coach for College Of Lake County, a junior college that he attended and set several school records at during his time there. He took over as head coach in 2005 and led his team to a 30-20 record and a sectional championship.

In 2004 and 2005, Domel served as the pitching coach for the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Domel became the pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Maine in 2006 and helped guide the team to the American East Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

He then went on to become the pitching coach at Flagler College in Florida, where he spent three seasons.

Domel takes over the position held by Jodie, the new Somerset Patriots manager, over the past six seasons. Domel joins former New York Yankees slugger Shane Spencer, the team’s new hitting/third base coach, on the Patriots coaching staff.

“I’m definitely excited about the opportunity to coach for the Patriots and in the Atlantic League. I know there are high goals and expectations set by both the organization and myself. I look forward to working with Brett and Shane to reach those goals,” said Domel.
