Ducks Beat Patriots 4-3 With Walk Off Homer In 14th

Central Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (25-25, 55-65) salvaged the final game of the four game weekend series by beating the Somerset Patriots (32-18, 78-42) 4-3 in 14 innings. Second baseman Josh Barfield slugged a walk-off home run (6) to left-center field to send the Flock home with a victory. 

 

In the top of the third inning designated hitter Cory Aldridge laced a two RBI single up the middle to give the Patriots an early 2-0 lead.

Somerset scratched across another run in the top of the fourth inning as right fielder Adam Bailey committed a throwing error that allowed first baseman Jeff Baisley to score increasing the lead to 3-0.

First baseman Ryan Strieby got the Flock on the scoreboard as he nailed a two-run home run (3) to right field to make the score 3-2.

 

The Ducks tied the contest at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning as designated hitter Willis Otanez belted a home run (1) to left field. 

 

Barfield’s homer in the 14th inning snapped Somerset’s six game winning streak and also stopped Long Island’s five game losing streak.

 

Nick DeBarr (4-10) earned the win in relief. Carlton Smith (2-1) suffered the loss in relief.
