Patriots Sweep Day-Night Double Header Over Bluefish

Bridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots swept a day-night double header over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday.

The Somerset Patriots (5-4, 51-27) shutout the Bridgeport Bluefish (5-4, 27-52) 4-0 Saturday afternoon from Harbor Yard in game one of a day-night doubleheader.

In the top of the fourth inning shortstop Scott Kelly sliced a RBI single to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.

 

The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 3-0. Right fielder Luis Montanez and catcher Adam Donachie each drew bases loaded walks.

 

An error by third baseman Ramon Castro led to an unearned run in the top of the seventh as Somerset’s lead grew to 4-0.

 

Daniel Herrera (3-0) earned the win tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. DJ Mitchell (5-6) suffered the loss lasting 4.1 innings while walking five batters and issuing three runs.

 

 

Game 2:

The Somerset Patriots (6-4, 52-27) doubled up the Bridgeport Bluefish (5-5, 27-53) 4-2 Saturday evening from Harbor Yard in game two of a day-night doubleheader.

 

In the top of the first inning right fielder Luis Montanez sliced a RBI single to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.

 

The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the top of the second to expand their lead to 3-0. Catcher Damaso Espino hit into a double play that resulted in a run while another run came across on a Julio Rodriguez wild pitch.

 

Center fielder James Simmons clubbed a solo home run (10) in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.

 

In the bottom of the eighth inning designated hitter Luis Lopez tallied a RBI sacrifice fly to make the contest 3-2.

 

Somerset scored in the ensuing half inning as pitcher Winston Abreu hurled a wild pitch that led to a run that made the score 4-2 in favor of the Patriots which would be the final

 

Matt Maloney (5-4) earned the win tossing seven innings while only allowing one run. Rodriguez (2-1) endured the loss lasting 5.1 innings while surrendering three runs and walking six. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 26th save pitching a perfect final frame.
